چکیده

The effects of a nutrient-based feeding stimulant, Coax, and a stilbene-based optical brightener, Blankophor P167, on the activity of the nucleopolyhedrovirus of the fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda (J. E. Smith) (SfMNPV) on transgenic sweet corn, Zea mays L., expressing a CryIA(b) toxin from Bacillus thuringiensis (Berliner), were studied in the laboratory. Both Coax and Blankophor P167 increased virus-induced mortality. The effects of both materials did not differ between transgenicandnontransgeniccorn.Thegreatest increase invirus-inducedmortalityoccurred when Coax and Blankophor P167 were combined. Neither material affected the percentage of larvae killed by the CryIA(b) toxin.

Biologically-based spray treatments, including nucleopolyhedroviruses, neem, and spinosad, were evaluated as supplemental controls for the fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda (J. E. Smith), and corn earworm, Helicoverpa zea (Boddie) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), on transgenic sweet corn, Zea mays (L.) Damage and survivorship of fall armyworm (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) on transgenic field corn expressing Bacillus thuringiensis Cry proteins

Field corn, Zea mays L., plants expressing Cry1Ab and Cry1F insecticidal crystal (Cry) proteins of Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) Berliner are planted on considerable acreage across the Southern region of the United States. The fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda (J.E. Smith), is an economically important pest during the mid-to-late season on non-Bt and some commercial Bt corn hybrids. The object...

The Gypsy Moth (Lepidoptera: Lymantriidae) Nucleopolyhedrovirus as a Synergist for Baculoviruses Against Beet Armyworm, Fall Armyworm and Corn Earworm (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae)

The gypsy moth, Lymantria dispar (L.) Genetic basis of resistance to fall armyworm (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) and southwestern corn borer (Lepidoptera: Crambidae) leaf-feeding damage in maize.

Leaf-feeding damage by first generation larvae of fall armyworm, Spodopter frugiperda (J. E. Smith) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), and southwestern corn borer, Diatraea grandiosella Dyar (Lepidoptera: Crambidae), cause major economic losses each year in maize, Zea mays L. A previous study identified quantitative trait loci (QTL) contributing to reduced leaf-feeding damage by these insects in the mai...

Growth and development of fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda (J. E. Smith), were compared in two laboratory trials between individuals oered transgenic maize seedlings, conventional maize seedlings, or artificial diet. Transgenic maize seedlings in the first and second trials expressed Cry9C (Event CBH 351) and Cry1A(b) (Event MON 810) Bacillus thuringiensis (Berliner) (Bt) endotoxin genes, r...
